Notice of Correction of Typographical Error to
All Town of Erie Mail Ballot Recipients
During the evening of Friday, March 16, 2012, the Town of Erie became aware of a typographical error on the April 3, 2012 Ballot. Under the Board of Trustees section on the Ballot the instructions read “Vote for one (3)”. To clarify, the voter has the option of voting for three Trustee candidates. Election notices published by the Town have correctly stated that voters have the option of voting for three Trustee candidates. However, in order to avoid confusion among prospective voters, the Town of Erie is issuing a Correction of Error Notice including the following actions:
a.. A direct mail correction of error notice is being sent from Election Systems & Software (the company that produced and mailed the original ballot)
a.. The notice is available online and will be sent to all active registered Weld and Boulder County voters in the Town of Erie. This list of voters is identical to the list used to mail the original ballot.
a.. The notice clarifies the instructions for the prospective voter.
a.. The notice explicitly tells the prospective voter to “VOTE FOR THREE (3)”.
a.. The notice also includes instructions for voters who may have already mailed back their ballots and would like to request a replacement ballot.
a.. The Replacement Ballot Request Form is available online.
a.. NOTE: When the ballots are returned by mail, they are not considered VOTED until the election judges actually open and process them. Until that occurs they remain sealed in their Secrecy Envelopes. As those envelopes have the AFFIDAVIT OF VOTER section with the voter’s name/signature on it, they are easily retrievable and it can easily be verified if someone has actually voted.
a.. As of the morning of Saturday, March 17, 2012, three ballots have been returned to the Town Clerk’s Office.
a.. The notice of correction is scheduled to be mailed no later than Wednesday, March 21, 2012.
a.. This notice will be sent directly to each candidate.
